A visit to Snak Atak, 4302 S. Main St. in Joplin, made a Missouri Lottery player wonder if he might be the one who had won a $50,000 Powerball prize.

“The store I go to every day posted a sign saying, ‘We sold a $50,000 Powerball winner! Check your tickets,’” he said.

He went out to his car and quickly checked his ticket from the Sept. 4 drawing and realized he really was the winner that sign was talking about.

“I was just floored,” he shared. “I called my spouse to tell him we won, and he didn’t believe me!”

The ticket’s winning numbers, which matched four of the five white-ball numbers drawn, as well as the Powerball number, were a series of numbers he picked while on vacation earlier this year.

“We were in Florida and I decided to play those numbers, and when I got back home, I just kept playing them,” he added.

Powerball is a $2 per play multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. The winning numbers for the Sept. 4 drawing were 1, 26, 32, 46 and 51 with a Powerball number of 13. All current and past winning numbers can be found at MOLottery.com.

In FY23, players in Newton County won more than $6.3 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $662,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $3.3 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
